Kadri Simson Honored with European Electrification Award

Recognized for her unwavering dedication to advancing the EU Green Deal and promoting the direct electrification of Europe's energy system, Commissioner Simson's contributions have been instrumental in driving forward crucial policies for direct electrification.

Throughout her tenure, Commissioner Simson has emphasized the strategic significance of domestically produced renewables and direct electrification, particularly during challenging periods for Europe's energy sector. Her efforts have been pivotal in shaping key policies including the REPowerEU initiative, the EU Solar Strategy, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and several others, all essential components of the EU Green Deal Industrial Plan.

The award ceremony, held at Audi Brussels, marked the commendable achievements of Commissioner Simson in advancing Europe's electrification goals. As part of its sustainability initiatives, Audi Brussels exclusively manufactures 100% electric cars, utilizing green energy and generating renewable electricity onsite. Through such initiatives, the plant has achieved certified CO₂-neutrality, contributing to the broader mission of sustainable industrial practices.

The event also saw the unveiling of the 'Electrification Manifesto,' which outlines crucial policies to accelerate the uptake of direct, smart electrification in Europe. The Manifesto emphasizes the need for a dedicated Electrification Action Plan within the first 100 days of the incoming European Commission's mandate. It also highlights the necessity of significant investments in electricity grids and the promotion of skilled workers to advance electrification goals across the EU.

Simson, in her remarks, emphasized the critical role of electrification in the upcoming decades to achieve an efficient, secure, and decarbonized energy system, underscoring the significance of electricity as the main energy carrier by 2040. The Manifesto, presented alongside the award ceremony, reinforces the need for a comprehensive Electrification Action Plan to ensure a significant shift toward cleaner energy sources and bolster Europe's overall resilience in the face of climate challenges.

The Electrification Alliance, a consortium of prominent industry associations including the European Association of Electrical Contractors, Avere, Eurelectric, and several others, aims to underscore the importance of renewable and clean electricity as a critical energy carrier for Europe's efficient and decarbonized future.
