The COSMILE Europe app, available in 8 languages with more to come, aims to empower European citizens by providing a user-friendly platform to comprehend the composition of cosmetic products. It offers several features to facilitate easy access to information on cosmetic ingredients, supporting consumers in making informed choices.
John Chave, Director General of Cosmetics Europe, expressed the industry's commitment to transparency: "As an industry, we are committed to providing information on the ingredients in our cosmetic products in a simple and easily accessible way. Now with the COSMILE Europe app, with its new ways of searching and tracking ingredients, accessing this information has never been easier. We hope this tool will contribute to helping European citizens choose their cosmetic products."
Users of the app can access ingredient information through various methods, including scanning the ingredients list on product labels, manual searches for individual ingredients, or scanning a product barcode for detailed information. The app also enables users to track ingredients of interest or those associated with allergies confirmed by a dermatologist. Additionally, users can create personalized lists of favorite products, allowing them to review ingredients at any time.
The app's 'Insights' section provides information on how EU law ensures the safety of cosmetics and their ingredients. It also addresses common questions about cosmetics and their components, including the functioning of sunscreen.
The COSMILE Europe app, originally developed by the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery, and Detergent Association (IKW), has now been rebranded with the support of Cosmetics Europe. Twelve Cosmetics Europe member associations, representing the cosmetics and personal care industry at the national level, have made the app available in Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, and Spanish.
