Dr. Sury, currently the Chief Operating Officer Hydrogen of RWE Generation SE, will assume her new role on 26th April 2023, succeeding Jon André Løkke. The appointment comes as the hydrogen industry in Europe gears up for rapid expansion and development.
Dr. Sury, who will hold the position until June 2025, takes over from Løkke, the former CEO and board member of Nel Hydrogen. Løkke chose not to seek re-election as board member of Nel Hydrogen, having served as chair of Hydrogen Europe’s board since June 2021 and initially joining in June 2020.
Commenting on her appointment, Dr. Sury emphasized the importance of joint responsibility between society, politics, and industry in the acceleration of the European hydrogen economy. She expressed her honor in representing the hydrogen industry during this critical phase of the energy transition.
Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO of Hydrogen Europe, expressed his delight in welcoming Dr. Sury as the new chair, adding that her leadership will oversee a period of heightened activity in the European hydrogen sector. He also thanked the outgoing chair, Løkke, for his excellent work in shaping the European hydrogen policy landscape over the past two years.
In his departing remarks, Løkke reflected on his enjoyable experience with Hydrogen Europe and its board, reiterating his commitment to addressing climate change and the energy transition. He extended his best wishes to Dr. Sury and the organization as they work towards a carbon-neutral Europe and a world-leading hydrogen sector.
For the occasion, CEO Chatzimarkakis interviewed Dr. Sury.
