Luuk Zonneveld, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries (BIO), has a substantial background in development finance and the private sector. Mr. Zonneveld has been pivotal to the growth of BIO since 2021, leading the firm to double its activity and establish the SDG Frontier Fund, which enables institutional and private investors to co-invest with BIO. The new EDFI Chair also has experience with Fairtrade International and has been an active member of EDFI’s Board of Directors since 2020.
In his acceptance remarks, Zonneveld expressed his commitment to EDFI’s mission of sustainable development, highlighting the need for strategic partnerships to improve livelihoods through supporting private businesses in developing countries.
David Kuijper, the incoming General Manager, has an equally distinguished background in public finance, diplomacy, and development. Currently, Kuijper holds a position at FMO – EDFI’s Dutch member, as the Manager of Public Investment and Blended Finance. He brings with him a wealth of experience from various roles within the Netherlands Foreign Service, including Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan and Deputy Director for Environment, Climate, Water, and Energy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking on his new role, Kuijper stated, “I believe in the power of finance as a catalyst for sustainable development, and I look forward to collaborating with EDFI members and with EDFI partners to drive positive change and create lasting impact.”
With these new appointments, EDFI bolsters its commitment to fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth across Europe. The combined experience of Zonneveld and Kuijper is expected to drive new initiatives and strengthen the association’s efforts in advancing development finance in the region.
